Printer Notes: The 1st State Cartographic Institution was formerly the A. Il'in print shop located on the Priazhka Embankment in St. Petersburg. Aleksei Alekseevish Il'in (1858-1942) was a cartographer, business leader and a member of the St. Petersburg State Council of Elections prior to the October Revolution. Il'in's shop was the first private cartographic business in St. Petersburg to produce military maps, railway maps, and atlases. Aleksei Il'in died during the infamous Leningrad Blockade of World War II.
