Poster Notes: The elections propagated are for seats in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The national dress of the couple illustrated suggests the poster was directed at citizens in the Turkmen SSR. The man is wearing a medal for the "Hero of Socialist Labor" earned for special achievements in national economy and culture and he is wearing an unidentified military ribbon bar suggesting that he was a World War II veteran.

Printer Notes: Prior to nationalization by the Soviets, the 1st Exemplary Typography Workshop was the Sharapov-Sytin Partnerhip. In 1919, Sytin's plant was nationalized by the Bolsheviks. After World War II, the 1st Exemplary Typography was named in honor of Andrei Alexandrovich (A.A.) Zhdanov (1896-1948), a Soviet Communist Party leader. Glavpoligrafizdat (Main Administration for Matters of Polygraphic Industry Publishing and Book Selling) came about in 1949 to oversee printing, publishing and book selling in the USSR. As a result, OGIZ (Association of State Book and Magazine Publishers), the entity that previously administered state publishing, was dissolved. Glavpoligrafizdat was under the Council of Ministries of the USSR, the main executive agency of the nation from 1946 until 1991.
