"Life is becoming happier every day!" This 1953 poster was designed by Soviet artist, Aleksei Alekseevich Kokorekin.

The phrase on this poster was borrowed from Josef Stalin's 1935 speech to workers attending the First All-Union Meeting held at the Kremlin. The phrase he uttered was, "life has become better comrades, life has become merrier". Historically, Stalin's message to the workers let them know Russian Civil War era shortages, rationing and deprivation were all coming to an end-- thanks to his leadership.

Stalin's quote was also recycled into a catchphrase that adorned the walls of schools, factories and public buildings. At one point, the quote was put to music by Alexander Alexandrov. His song Zhit' stalo luchshe ("Life Has Become Better") shares a faint resemblance to the Anthem of the Soviet Union also written by Alexandrov.
