Emel’ianov, Luka Mart’ianovich

Luka Mart’ianovich Emel’ianov was a Russian and Soviet graphic artist. He studied at MUZhVZ (Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture) from 1901 to 1906. After graduation, Emel’ianov taught secondary school in the towns of Novorzhev and Yekaterinoslav.
By the 1920s, the artist was working in commercial design, and he was creating posters, brochures, and display signs. Some poster titles Emel’ianov designed are, "Cooperation is the Path to Communism" (1920); "Knowledge and Labor will give us a New Way of Life", "Fight against pests! The worm undermines grain sprouts, the kulak merchant depletes the peasant farm. Build and Strengthen Cooperation." (both 1924). Luka Mart’ianovich Emel’ianov typically signed his artwork with the initials L.E.
