Гинц, Стефан Иванович

Born November 13, 1900, location unknown, Russian Empire; died 1960, location unknown, presumably USSR

There is little published information available on the Soviet graphic artist and illustrator Stefan Ivanovich Gints. He lived in Rostov-on-Don and worked as the lead artist for Rostizdat (Rostov Book Publishing House). The artist’s illustrations were published by Rostizdat in multiple collections such as “Preserving fruits and vegetables at home”. In addition to the designs he created for political and state insurance posters, Gints is credited as having illustrated Soviet-era children's story books.

Some poster titles Stefan Gints designed before the Second World War are: "Planting and Caring for Forest Belts" (circa 1930) and "Let's Create a Powerful People's Militia!" (1941). During the war, the artist is noted for designing the following posters: Agit-window No. 2 (1944), "Letter to Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin from workers of Rostov-on-Don on the first anniversary of the city's liberation from German invaders, February 14, 1944" (1944), and “Long Live the 28th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution! The end of the war!...” (1945).
