Aleksei Alekseevich Kapitan was a Soviet graphic artist. He also was the brother of Leonid Kapitan, a noted mosaic designer in the Soviet Union. Aleksei Kapitan graduated in 1955 from the Kiev Art Institute where he studied under Vasili Il’ich Kasiian, the celebrated Ukrainian painter and graphic artist. Throughout his life, Aleksei Kapitan worked in the fields of easel graphics and political posters. Starting in the late 1950s, the artist participated in poster competitions both Republican and All-Union, and his work was featured in international exhibitions. Some of Kapitan’s key poster designs include: "The Motherland Calls to the East!" (1956); "On Guard of Peace" (1959); "From First Communist Subbotniks to Brigades of Communist Labor" (1960); "Thoughts, Words and Deeds of Il’ich [Lenin] are Marching Across the World in Victorious Ranks" (1962); "Let's Master Every Hectare!" (1962, designed with Leonid Kapitan); “To Live with Abundance -- Make Friends with Chemistry.” (1965, designed with Viktor Kucherenko); "A Worthy Meeting for the XXIII Congress of the CPSU" (1966); "Lenin Illuminated the Great Path for Us" (1967); "Lenin. October" (1981), and others.
Aleksei Alekseevich Kapitan was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
