Mrachkovskii, Ignatii Konstantinovich

Мрачковский, Игнатий Константинович

Born 1889, Ural Region, Imperial Russia; Died 1936, location unknown, presumably USSR

There is little published information available on the artist Ignatii Mrachkovskii. Soviet-era art history sources document him as having illustrated books by the Russian poet Sergei Mitrofanovich Gorodetskii ("Bird," 1924); by the children’s writer Agnia L’vovna Barto (“Goose”, 1926), and by the children’s writer Lev Nikolaevich Zilov ("Blouse from a Garbage Pile," 1928; "Rain," 1929). In addition, the artist designed covers for the magazines of Novaia Moskva Publishing House. During his career, Mrachkovskii was involved in the elaboration of propaganda posters. Some titles the artist created were: "Properly store and distribute lubricants and fuel" and “Trade union member! By paying your membership dues on time, you ensure development of cultural and mass work and improve your public services," (both 1931), and "Let's ensure the successful gathering of the socialist harvest by timely repair of agricultural machines and equipment…." (1932). During the mid-1920s, the artist reportedly moved to Central Asia. From 1925 to 1930, Ignatii Konstantinovich Mrachkovskii designed monumental paintings for use in architectural applications.
