Poster Notes: Poster is without text and was probably used as a make-ready by the printer to observe flaws or to check color. Research indicates the poster was issued in 1935 with the following text: We stand for peace and champion the cause of peace. But we are not afraid of threats and are prepared to answer against the instigators of war blow for blow. -Stalin. His quote is from a speech at the 17th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1934; Man in the foreground has a Moisant Nagant rifle while the man behind him appears to carry a variation of a Tokarev-made automatic rifle.

Petr Ivanovich Luganskii was a Leningrad (St. Petersburg) graphic artist and book illustrator. From 1928 to 1932 he studied at the Kharkov Art Institute. Starting in 1932, Luganskii participated in professional art exhibitions. Throughout his career, he designed posters for the publishing houses Mistetstvo and IzoGiz. During the Second World War, Petr Luganskii served in the Red Army. During the war, his wife and young daughter perished during the infamous Leningrad Blockade.
