Printer Notes: After World War II, the 1st Exemplary Typography was named in honor of Andrei Alexandrovich (A.A.) Zhdanov (1896-1948), a Soviet Communist Party leader. The workshop was a printer for Sovnarkhoz (Regional Council of National Economy) of Moscow. Prior to nationalization by the Soviets, the 1st Exemplary Typography Workshop was the Sharapov-Sytin Partnerhip. Ivan Sytin, a book-publishing magnate, had his printing plant at Valovaia and Piatnitskaia streets in Moscow. In 1919, Sytin's plant was nationalized by the Bolsheviks.
