Printer Notes: Prior to nationalization by the Soviets, the 1st Exemplary Typography Workshop was the Sharapov-Sytin Partnerhip. Ivan Sytin, a book-publishing magnate, had his printing plant at Valovaia and Piatnitskaia streets in Moscow. Around 1918, Sytin's plant and the Royal (state) Print Yard were both nationalized by the Bolsheviks. After World War II, the 1st Exemplary Typography was named in honor of Andrei Alexandrovich (A.A.) Zhdanov (1896-1948), a Soviet Communist Party leader. The workshop was a printer for Sovnarkhoz (Regional Council of National Economy) of Moscow.
