OKhR (Association of Realist Artists)

OKhR was the Association of Realist Artists. It was founded in 1927 by disgruntled artists that left the Association of Artists of the Revolution (AKhR). After the split, the AKhR members went on to participate in the 16th Venice Biennale exhibition (1928). While the OKhR maintained clubs in Moscow and Leningrad, its realist-based artists intended to expand the Association throughout the Soviet Union.

OKhR was the Association of Realist Artists. It was founded in 1927 by disgruntled artists that left the Association of Artists of the Revolution (AKhR). After the split, the AKhR members went on to participate in the 16th Venice Biennale exhibition (1928). While the OKhR maintained clubs in Moscow and Leningrad, its realist-based artists intended to expand the Association throughout the Soviet Union. That expansion never materialized due to the government's consolidation of guilds and unions in 1930. In addition, the publishing house under the OKhR that distributed art albums, catalogs, postcards, posters and other material, folded in 1931.
