From June 1941 until May 1945, Latvia was occupied by the armed forces of Germany. By 1945, the USSR had expelled German troops across the Baltic States and a pro-Soviet government was re-established in Lativa. February elections were held for Latvia's representation in the USSR Government (the theme of this poster) and, those elections were followed by elections in February 1947 of the Latvian Supreme Soviet. On January 18, 1948, elections to the local Soviets took place.
