Gerasimov, Nikolai Mikhailovich

Nikolai Mikhailovich Gerasimov was a Soviet graphic artist, a watercolorist, and a poster artist. Born in western Russia, Gerasimov developed a passion for art during the period he moved to Leningrad (St. Petersburg). From 1923 to 1927, he studied at VKhUTEMAS (Higher Art and Technical Studios) in Leningrad, and by the late 1920s, the artist began his professional career. His work was included in the 1932, First All-Union Poster Exhibition: The Poster in the Service of the Five-Year Plan that was held in Moscow. In 1973, the artist was featured in a solo exhibition in Tashkent, Uzbek SSR.
From the early 1930s onward, Gerasimov lived in Tashkent where he worked as an art editor for the publishing house Uzgiz (Uzbeckoe Gosudarstvennoe Izdatel'svo). During the 1950s, he taught at the Tashkent Art School. Gerasimov's work was featured in a variety of venues throughout the Uzbek SSR. Beyond the elaborations he created in the field of graphic design, Gerasimov also illustrated books and worked in easel painting. Nikolai Mikhailovich Gerasimov was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
