Красицкая, Ариадна Николаевна

Born March 10, 1913, St. Petersburg, Russian Empire; died after 1989, presumably USSR

Ariadna Nikolaevna Krasitskaia was a Soviet graphic artist and designer. In 1928, she began her studies at the Kiev Art and Industrial School, and from 1929 to 1932, she continued at the Moscow State Technical School of Fine Arts in Memory of the 1905 Revolution. During the mid-1930s, Krasitskaia enrolled in advanced training at the Moscow Society of Artists under the tutelage of Fedor Ivanovich Rerberg, a Russian and Soviet-era painter and arts educator.

During the Second World War, Krasitskaia was evacuated to Alma-Ata (Almaty), Kazakh SSR. There, she worked in the city’s state-run film studio. Returning to Moscow after the war, the artist designed advertising posters while working as a staff designer at Mossovet State Academic Theatre.

From the 1950s to the 1960s, Ariadna Krasitskaia designed posters for the houses of IzoGiz (State Publishing House of Fine Art), Sovietskii Khudozhnik (Soviet Artist) and Voenizdat (Military Publishing House). Krasitskaia’s designs tended to reflect social themes addressing childhood, the struggle for peace, and sports competitions. Some of her poster titles include: "Hero of the Soviet Union: Major Ts. L. Kunikov” [Tsezar' L'vovich Kunikov] (1954); "Join the Naval Modeling Clubs! Prepare to Become Shipbuilders!" and "Demobilized Soldiers! Be active in the Work of DOSAAF" (both 1957); "Youths Be Bold, to the Vast Taiga! The Great Construction Project Calls You - Siberia!" and "Water Sports - the Best Recreation" (both 1959); "Come Into Our House, Comrade, Happy New Year -- All People Will Glorify You With Their Labor!" (1964); "Raise the Banner of Soviet Sport" (1969), and others. In 1959, Ariadna Nikolaevna Krasitskaia became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
