Reshetnikov, Boris Andreevich

Решетников, Борис Андреевич

Born July 7, 1921, Saratov, USSR; died 2009, Moscow, Russia

Boris Andreevich Reshetnikov was a Soviet graphic artist. From 1946 to 1958, he studied at the Saratov Art School. In 1954, Reshetnikov graduated from the State Academy of Arts named for Teodors Zaļkalns in Riga, Latvian SSR. He went on to teach at the Latvian Academy from 1954 to 1956. It was also in the 1950s that he moved to Moscow. The artist began designing posters for Izogiz State Publishing by the mid-1950s. At Izogiz, Reshetnikov designed over fifty titles. Given the proscribed, governmental artistic rules of the era, his posters differed little from the designs turned-out by other artists working at the publishing house. However, by the end of the 1950s, Reshetnikov was accentuating his work by using delicate strokes and a unique style. Boris Reshetnikov’s posters were also published by Sovetskii Khudoznik (Soviet Artist) and Izobrazitel'noe Iskusstvo (Fine Arts).

A sample of his posters includes: "Under the Banner of Leninism, Under the Leadership of the Communist Party, Forward to the Triumph of Communism!" (1953); "Strengthen the International Solidarity of Workers!" (1955); “Glory To The Defenders Of October!” (1957); "The Nations Say No!" (1962); “Armor robust, motors strong – Tankers guard the country of the Soviets!” (1963); “So that war will forever disappear, so that mothers will have peace of mind” (1966); "Glory to the Soviet Aviators!" (1973). He also designed posters with the artist Alexander Dobrov.

Boris Andreevich Reshetnikov was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and a member of the Union of Journalists of the USSR.
