Nikolai Ivanovich Tereshchenko was a Soviet painter and graphic artist. In his youth, Tereshchenko and his family moved to Moscow. In 1939, he graduated from MGKhI (Moscow Secondary Art School). During the Second World War, Tereshchenko was evacuated to the village of Voskresenka in the Bashkorostan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. After the war, the artist continued studying at the Moscow State Art Institute in honor of V.I. Surikov (formerly, Moscow Secondary Art School).

Tereshchenko initially worked as an easel painter and then later applied his talents to the field of political and social posters. He developed a style characterized as, “painted”. In a published interview, Tereshchenko commented on his design career by stating, "…. [after having] a painting degree from the Surikov Institute, life unintentionally steered me to posters… but I left as painting proved deeper, and the poster's simplified formula – brief, pertinent, burning – is encoded in all the works of the Greats...". A number of Tereshchenko’s posters were disturbed by the publishing house Sovietskii Khudozhnik (Soviet Artist) that chiefly served the Artists Union of the USSR.

Various poster titles Tereshchenko designed are: "In the Name of Peace!" (1952); "Long Live Peace Among Nations!" (1953); "Spring is beautiful for excellent sowing" (1954); "The year 1905. Glory to the fighters of the revolution!" (1955); "Praise the woman-mother!" (1956), "Glory to the Sons of Lenin!" (1958); "Glory to the Fighters of October!" (1960); "New Successes, Comrades!" (1980). In 1954, Tereshchenko won Second Prize in the Best Sports Poster Competition for his colorful poster "Don't Fear the Heat or the Cold. Temper Yourself Like Steel!"

Around 1954, Nikolai Tereshchenko began exhibiting his work professionally. Some exhibitions include: Moscow House of Artists (1969 and 1976, Moscow); a solo exhibition on the artist’s 70th birthday at Khodynka Gallery (1994, Moscow); a solo exhibition on the artist’s 80th birthday at the Moscow Union of Artists (2004, Moscow); the exhibition on the artist’s 85th birthday at Zamoskvorechye Gallery (2009, Moscow); "In Blessed Memory”, a solo exhibition at the Moscow State Exhibition Hall, New Manege, and a solo exhibition at Oready Gallery, Central House of Artists (both 2011, Moscow).

Nikolai Ivanovich Tereshchenko was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR (1954). The artist was bestowed the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR in 1970.
